The "Happy Quilters" meet weekly in the Fellowship Hall. Every year, they produce hundreds of colorful warm quilts for Lutheran World Relief thereby bringing comfort and love from SVLC to around the world. The HQ's also prepare school kits, health kits and soap donations for this global endeavor.
This outreach ministry prepares “home-cooked” meals that can be distributed to families within and outside our congregation who may be in need of comfort, compassion, consolation, and care.
On Saturday, September 10, members from SVLC got together to participate in "God's Work, Our Hands." We had several opportunities for participation- Shades Creek Clean-up, putting together Lutheran World Relief school kits, and helping our Fishes & Loaves Casserole Ministry deliver casseroles to fire stations around Homewood, Alabama
We have partnered with the AIM program to help Birmingham area AIM families. For years SVLC members drove AIM children and their guardians to the Julia Tutwiler Prison in Wetumpka, AL for visitation days with their loved ones. We have also all enjoyed hosting Christmas and school activites. This year we were able to help one family refurnish their new home after a fire.
Several times a year members collect items for Oak Mountain Missions Ministries, Inc. in Pelham, Alabama. This year Fishes and Loaves hosted a "Christmas in July" summer food drive because many families on fixed incomes are suffering due to food scarcity and rising inflation.
